‘Green Machine’ wins comfortably
St. Augustine had no problems disposing of Malabar on Friday by an impressive 3-0 score-line at St. Augustine grounds. Daniel Joseph continued his great run of goal-scoring form and easily beat Malabar keeper Zwade James to give his team a 9th minute lead. Ryan O’Neil, another in form St. Augustine player, got his team’s second goal in the second half in the 69th minute and stylish playmaker Elton John completed the rout in the 74th minute. St. Augustine remain in the lead, but the East Zone title race is still a tight battle as San Juan trail them by just four points. Malabar remain in second to last spot in the competitive East Zone standings. St. Augustine are in action on Wednesday when they host Hillview and should be looking for some measure of revenge against the team that flawed their perfect season so far, when they could only manage a 1-1 draw the first time the teams met. Malabar are rested until next Saturday when they play hosts to Hillview at the Larry Gomes stadium.
San Juan keeps pressure on St. Augustine
San Juan pulled off a 4-1 victory on their travels to Toco on Friday to ensure that St. Augustine’s gap at the top of the table would not increase. They remain in second spot in the group on 21 points, four points adrift of leaders, St. Augustine. Goals from Neil Mitchell, Jonathon Romain, Anthony Guppy and Hayden John were enough to sink Toco, despite Yannick Diaz’s goal which was not enough to get his team any points. Toco still sit in fourth place in the group on 12 points and face third place team El Dorado on Wednesday, and if they win, they move into third spot. San Juan play Arima on Wednesday and will expect nothing less than all three points when the bottom placed team make the journey to San Juan.
Hillview and El Dorado battle to a draw
El Dorado picked up a point on the road on Friday when their clash with Hillview ended in a 1-1 draw. Leonardo Reyes opened the scoring for Hillview early in the first half, but failed to hang on to their lead and squandered some opportunities to add to their lead including a Reyes penalty. El Dorado equalized through Shane Hospedales and remain in third spot in the group but face some competition for that spot when they host fourth placed Toco on Wednesday. Hillview also have a tough encounter on hand when they travel to the St. Augustine lair, where St. Augustine is yet to drop any points. |
