Siparia vs St. Benedict’s: South kicks off!

By its very own high standards, St. Benedict’s College has had a tremendously disappointing last two seasons. ‘Benedicts’ will look to start their 2008 campaign positively, as they have avoided playing  ‘Naps’, ‘Pres’ and ‘P Town’ in their opener. That being said, Siparia has proven to be a very plucky team that no one should take for granted. ‘Naps’ nearly lost the 2007 South Zone SSFL league title on the last day as they were shocked by this very Siparia team 1-0.

For St. Benedict’s College, a fifth place finish in 2007 on the heels of narrowly avoiding relegation in sixth position in 2006 is not where a team of their history wants to be.  ‘Benedicts’ will have a golden opportunity to start their 2008 campaign on a positive note as they come up against a Siparia team that they defeated twice, and finished above in the 2007 league.

Siparia Coach Dexter Francis will be looking to finish the 2008 season higher than the sixth position they achieved in 2007. Francis will need a performance like the one displayed to upset champs Naparima College in the last game of the 2007 league if they are to gain any points from this encounter.

In the 2007 head to head encounter between these two teams, St. Benedict’s College defeated Siparia 1-0 away and 2-0 at home.
