Central Zone

‘Caps’ off to winning start; Carapichaima 2 – 1 Preysal

Newboys Preysal went down to Cental League defending champions, Carapichaima today in a plucky 2-1 defeat. Many would have expected Carapichaima to beat the newly promoted team by a much higher margin, but Preysal definitely showed that they are not going to be a pushover team. Carapichaima opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Kareem Ryce, and doubled their lead just 3 minutes later when Shaquille Holder found the back of the net. Kevin Babb picked up a late consolation goal for Preysal in the 80th minute.

Carapichaima host Chaguanas on Wednesday 10th Sept in the battle of the seniors, while Preysal travel to Presentation Chaguanas also on the same day.

Also kicking off their campaigns on Friday 5th Sept are Chaguanas Senior vs Waterloo and Presentation vs Marabella.

South Zone

Siparia defeat St. Benedicts; Siparia 2 – 1 St. Benedicts

Siparia had to come from behind at home today to defeat South Zone opponents as SSFL action kicked off in the South Zone. Two second half goals were needed from Akiel Pope (penalty) and Kevin Flanders in the 65th and 85th minute respectively after going down a goal to the visitors in the 35th minute. Siparia now sit on top of the South Zone after the opening day. Siparia travel to Mannie Ramjohn Stadium on Wednesday 10th Sept to face Presentation College in their next fixture, while St. Benedicts visit Princes Town on Saturday 13th Sept.

Other South Zone teams kick off their league on Friday 5th Sept with Vessigny hosting Princes Town and the big rivalry between Naparima and Presentation also carded for the day.
